A beloved family restaurant and coffee shop in Evansville is asking the public for help to ensure accessible parking for its customers, sharing fears of financial strain.

A Downtown Evansville Staple for Years

The Daily Grind has been a staple in downtown Evansville for years. They are a family-owned, small business serving breakfast and lunch with delicious sandwiches, flavorful coffee, delectable sweet treats, and more to those visiting the Indiana city.

Today, the restaurant shared the kind of news that can be crippling to any small business. Their cost of doing business is about to increase exponentially, as the amount they spend on rent for their current location is about to nearly double.

Parking Fees Could Hurt The Daily Grind

In a post to Facebook, The Daily Grind shared their plea, in hopes that loyal customers and other community businesses might rally behind them. The restaurant learned that they will now be required to lease parking spaces for their customers to use in the parking lot that accompanies the building where they currently lease space for their operations.

Owners Turn to Community for Creative Solutions

They say that the parking spaces will require a lease amount of nearly $2,000 a year, and that their need for about ten spots would add an estimated $20,000 to the business's annual operating costs.

...as parents of a special needs child who’s on a long waiting list to receive Medicaid Waivers, we don’t have $20,000 extra a year. If any businesses are willing to sponsor a space, please let us know. We will advertise your business on our fb page. Or, if you want to do a trade for catering or meal services, we’d be happy to do that as well.

How Local Businesses Can Help

Flexing their creative muscle, the owners of The Daily Grind have offered ad space on their social media, as well as trade catering in exchange for monetary support. As of now, there does not appear to be an immediate resolution to the restaurant's situation.

Where to Find The Daily Grind

Currently, The Daily Grind is located near the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Civic Center building, in the Danks and Danks Plaza located at 1 SE 9th Street.
