It's been a very hot summer in Indiana this year. You might be surprised to find out which Indiana city is the hottest in the entire state.

It's no secret that we have had one of the hottest summers on record in 2024. The heat was especially bad here in southern Indiana. We've seen temperatures in the 90s several days in a row this summer, and that doesn't even include the humidity and heat index. There were quite a few days where the heat index was in the triple digits. It was miserable outside! All of that being said, it was a very hot summer, but do you think you know what the hottest city in Indiana is?

The website, Better Where recently ranked the warmest cities in Indiana by researching data provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and other climate data providers. The website found the top 10 warmest places in Indiana ranked by their daily mean temperature. The cities featured in the ranking all have at least 5,000 inhabitants. It won't come as any surprise to you that the warmest region of Indiana is its southwestern part. The further north, the cooler it typically gets.

This is the Hottest City in Indiana

According to Better Where, the warmest city in the entire state happens to be my hometown of Boonville. Even though I have been outside all summer in this miserable heat, I am surprised that Boonville, of all places, took the top spot.

Here's what Better Where had to say about Boonville:

Boonville, a town of 6,700 people located in southwestern Indiana 20 miles northeast of Evansville, is the warmest place in the state. Its average annual temperature is much higher than the state’s average of 52 °F. The town sees an average high temperature of 42-47 °F in the winter and 86-89 °F in the summer. The average low temperature in Boonville is 25-29 °F in the winter months and 64-68 °F in the summer months. The city’s average temperatures make it have the mildest winters in the state along with Evansville placed second.

Are you surprised that Boonville is the hottest city in Indiana? Have you even heard of Boonville, for that matter? You can check out the top ten warmest cities in Indiana in the video below.

These temperatures might not seem too high. However, if you live in southern Indiana, you know that it gets much, much hotter than the upper 60s throughout the summer. Add the humidity on top of that, and it's even hotter outside. It's not uncommon to see summertime temperatures in the mid to upper 90s here in southern Indiana.

Oh, and if you were curious as to what the hottest temperature ever recorded in Indiana, that would be a scorching hot 116F at Collegeville in 1936.
