Vanderburgh Humane Society in Urgent Need of Cat Litter Donations
The Vanderburgh Humane Society on Evansville's north side needs your help. They have a lot of cats in their care looking for their forever homes. And by, "a lot," I mean A LOT! According to Executive Director Kendall Pau, they are currently caring for 556 cats and kittens between the shelter, River Kitty Cat Cafe downtown, and those currently living with foster families. As you can imagine, having that many cats requires needing a ridiculous amount of litter on hand at all times, and their supply is running low.
We have two cats with two litter boxes at my house and it feels like it doesn't take them long to fill them both up, so I can't imagine how many times a day the staff is cleaning litter boxes and filling them with fresh litter.
Urgent Need for Cat Litter Donations
The shelter put out a plea through its Facebook page Thursday afternoon asking for your help in getting their supply back up. They're looking for any brand of both scoopable and clay. You can either pick some up on your next shopping trip and drop it off at the shelter during regular business hours, order it through their Chewy or Amazon wish lists and have it shipped directly to them, or make a monetary donation through their Facebook page so they can purchase it themselves.
Of course, it would also be a huge help to the VHS if they didn't have so many cats and kittens to care for, so maybe consider fostering or better yet, outright adopting one to be a part of your family. As you can see, they're pretty chill animals for the most part. This is what our cat, Fred does most of the day.
To see the cats currently up for adoption, and to get a jump start on the adoption paperwork, visit the VHS website.
