Multiple So. Indiana Counties Under Red Travel Advisory Level [UPATE JAN 6]
Most people in the tri-state area have spent the day hunkered down at home, but for the few who’ve had to venture out, it’s been a whole different story. One photo from Warrick County even showed a snow plow sliding off the road!
The weather has made the roads treacherous, but it’s the sleet and freezing rain that’s really causing the problems. As the ice builds up on trees and power lines, we’re seeing power outages all over the tri-state, plus a rise in fire risks.
The situation has gotten pretty serious, and now Vanderburgh Co. is under a state of emergency. The Vanderburgh Emergency Management System has announced that travel is now restricted to emergency workers only in Vanderburgh County, joining Dubois and Perry Counties. Stay safe, everyone – this is no time to take chances.
UPDATE: Warrick, Gibson, Knox, Dubois, Perry and Vanderburgh Counties are now under a RED/WARNING Travel Restriction which means ONLY emergency personnel are allowed on the roads at this time.
During a "warning" local travel advisory, individuals are directed to:
- Refrain from all travel;
- Comply with necessary emergency measures;
- Cooperate with public officials and disaster services forces in executing emergency operations plans; and
- Obey and comply with the lawful directions of properly identified officers.
Vanderburgh Co. Increases to RED/WARNING Level
UPDATE – 8:50 P.M. TRAVEL ADVISORY to WARNING LEVEL ->
Coordinating with both City and County, elected officials and Public Safety Partners, we are changing our County Travel status to "WARNING", as conditions change, we will update this status. What Do the Colors Mean?
Yellow: Routine Travel - Use caution, some road conditions may be hazardous.
Orange: Essential Travel ONLY - To work and emergency situations only. Threatening conditions exist. Use extreme caution.
Red: NO travel permitted. - Roads are impassible. Travel restricted to emergency personnel only.
