Historic Indiana Candy Store Named Best in the Country by USA Today
For more than 100 years, Schimpff's Confectionery has been treating Hoosiers to delicious candy, and now they're getting recognized nationally.
The Art of Old-Fashioned Candy Making
In the age of quantity over quality, candy making (the old-fashioned way) seems like a lost art, but it is alive and well at Schimpff's Confectionery. There are still places around the country that make candy using traditional methods, but these places are few and far between. Luckily for us, we don't have to drive far to enjoy old-school candy. Schimpff's Confectionery in Jeffersonville, Indiana, is just a short drive from the Evansville area. This is part of the reason these older independent candy stores are such a treasure.
Schimpff's Confectionery A Historic Indiana Gem
For more than a century, Schimpff's has been making Southern Indiana a little bit sweeter. The Schimpff family has been making candy in the Jeffersonville area since 1871. G.A. Schimpff’s Confectionery officially opened in 1891 and is one of the oldest, continuously operated, family-owned candy businesses in the United States.
And the coolest part? The Schimpff family still owns the store to this day. They continue to make the classic candy that you know and love, and even have a candy museum.
Schimpff's Confectionery Named Best Independent Candy Store in the Country by USA Today
Recently, USA Today highlighted independent candy stores across the country. They chose 20 different candy stores that were nominated by a "panel of experts," and according to USA Today, these candy stores were chosen because they offer a variety of treats that you won't find in big stores. They then opened up voting, and Schimpff's was named the best!
Voting recently closed for USA Today's Readers' Choice Award to find the Best Independently Owned Candy Store in the U.S., and it's only fitting that Schimpff's was named the best!

Here is what USA Today says about Schimpff's Confectionery:
While Schimpff's Confectionery has been creating happy customers since the mid-1800s, this family-owned business has three very special candies that really keep people coming back for more. Their signature homemade hard-candy Cinnamon Red Hots are always in demand, as are their caramel-covered marshmallows called Modjeskas and their fish candies, a Christmastime favorite. Located in Indiana, just across the Ohio River from Kentucky, Schimpff's even has a candy museum designed to delight lovers of all sorts of candy creations.
Congratulations, Schimpff's Confectionery! This recognition is well deserved!
