This Is the Most Popular Sports Car Driven in Indiana
Sports car ownership is a dream for many, but for Hoosiers who have been able to make that dream a reality, there seems to be one car that stands out above the rest.
My wife has had two Ford Mustangs since we've been together, and they've been overall fun cars to drive. That said, our sports car days are likely behind us, given their uselessness in winter and higher-than-average gas consumption. Still, it's hard not to gawk at a new Chevrolet Corvette or Dodge Challenger when they come roaring down the road. The tri-state area is full of a variety of these muscle cars, and it's safe to say Hoosiers have a clear favorite.
Does Indiana Have Many Sports Cars?
While Indiana may not be the state with the highest number of registered sports cars, it does rank higher than you might think. To determine where sports car ownership is most popular, iSeeCars analyzed over 7 million 1- to 5-year-old used cars sold in 2023. The number of sports cars was then tallied by state, and the resulting percentage shares were used to rank the states.
iSeeCars found that the national average ownership rate is around 2.3%. Indiana falls below this line at 2.1%. However, Indiana ranks as the 22nd state with the most sports car owners in America. The top three states are Florida, followed by Hawaii and Arizona. The top ten states with the most sports cars generally have moderate climates, which makes sense, as sports cars don't do well in the snow (I have firsthand experience).
The Most Popular Sports Car Among Indiana Residents
Given the number of Ford Mustangs I see on the road these days, I had expected that sports car to be the most popular among Indiana residents. However, according to iSeeCars, I was wrong. Instead, the most popular sports car owned by Hoosiers is another classic that was first introduced to the car market in the fall of 1969. The car I'm talking about is none other than the Dodge Challenger.
The Dodge Challenger is actually the most popular sports car in 46 states, while the Ford Mustang is the most popular in the remaining 4. It's worth noting, however, that all four of those states are located along the coast. Furthermore, both models are among the most affordable sports cars, with new basic versions starting at around $30,000. Which do you like better?
