Everyone Should Keep Their Coffee Grounds for the Upcoming Indiana Winter

As we begin to prepare for winter in Indiana, every Hoosier should start saving their coffee grounds for one important reason.

If you're like me, you absolutely loathe winter weather. When you are a kid, it's cool because when it snows a lot (well, a lot for Indiana), you get the day off and enjoy playing in the snow. When you are an adult, you don't get that luxury. You are still expected to get out of that mess and drive to work. Throw in those frigid cold temperatures as another reason why I am not a fan of winter. Now, I realize that we haven't even gotten into fall, and the temperatures really haven't dropped too much yet. However, there are a lot of people who are already looking forward to winter weather here in Indiana. Either way, winter is coming, and now is the time to prepare.

There are plenty of winter weather hacks that you might already be aware of, but here's one that you might not know about. It involves coffee grounds, and no, it has nothing to do with drinking hot coffee to stay warm outside. Read on to learn more about this coffee grounds winter weather hack!

Keep Those Coffee Grounds!

Most people throw away their coffee grounds after they get done making it. Not that there is anything wrong with it...I mean, what else are you going to do with used coffee grounds? Well, I'd be willing to bet that a lot of people didn't know that those coffee grounds can be pretty handy during those cold, icy, and snowy winter months.

We all know that you can go to the store to buy rock salt or ice melt. However, when we have winter weather forecasted in the upcoming days, it can be very hard to find those items at the store. So, what do you do? That's when those used coffee grounds come in handy. According to Bob Villa:

Coffee grounds contain nitrogen, which works to lower the melting point of ice. Additionally, the dark color of coffee grounds better absorbs sunlight better than white snow or clear ice, slightly helping to increase the melting speed.
