October is domestic violence awareness month and one western Kentucky non-profit is raising awareness for those affected by hosting a special evening featuring one of the homicide detectives from the popular show, The First 48 on A&E as the keynote speaker.

The Chloe Randolph Organization Hosting "Candles of Hope" Event on October 28th

Candles of Hope will take place at the Preston Fine Arts Center on the campus of Henderson Community College on Saturday, October 28th. The evening will begin with a meet and mingle from 3:00 PM until 4:45 PM followed by the start of the event at 5:00 PM. According to the event's Facebook page, the goal is to bring the community together "in support of victims, survivors, and their families for awareness, advocacy, education, and empowerment."

The highlight of the event will be an appearance by Detective Jason White of the Tulsa, Oklahoma Police Department as the event's keynote speaker. Through his many appearances on the The First 48, Detective White has become a "fan favorite," for lack of a better term, whose 100th homicide case was featured on the show earlier this year in episode 13 of season 23. You can stream the entire episode through the A&E website (TV provider login required to stream).

Here's another look at Detective White in action from a Season 22 episode.

Candles of Hope Tickets

Admission to the event is free. However, you must have a ticket to get in which can be ordered through Eventbrite. It's important to note that content shared during the event and by Detective White may be difficult for some to see as it may contain images, video, or language that could be triggering for some individuals and is not suitable for children. So, if you'd like to attend, get a sitter for the kids.

About The Chloe Randolph Organization

In March 2019, Chloe Randolph was found dead in the Henderson apartment she shared with her husband, Mohamud Abdikadir, and their son, who was 9-months-old at the time. Police found her body in the closet with visible signs of head trauma and "a deep cut to her neck." Her husband was arrested and charged with her murder. He confessed to the crime a few weeks later and after several continuances and rescheduled court dates, pleaded guilty to that charge along with two charges of tampering with evidence back in September 2021. He is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence.

Determined not to let Chloe become another statistic, her parents and close friends saw her tragic death as motivation to help others in dangerous relationships. A major step in their journey took place in October 2020 with the opening of The Chloe Randolph Organization Advocacy Center in downtown Henderson.

The Center offers the following services free of charge and fully confidential:

  • Crisis Intervention
  • Case Management
  • Court Advocacy
  • Community Awareness
  • Temporary Shelter
  • Support Groups
  • Educational Classes
  • Community Resources
