This place is a treasure trove of weird, cool, vintage, unique, and creepy finds, and I could get LOST in its sea of oddities.

Quaint New Harmony, Indiana

New Harmony is one of those places that I do not visit nearly enough.  To be completely honest with you, it's only about 30 minutes from Evansville, and I haven't been there in years.  This all changed this weekend, and I will now make it a point to make regular trips there.

This past Saturday, the weather was absolutely beautiful, so I felt like going on an adventure. I called my mom and asked if she wanted to go on an impromptu trip to New Harmony for lunch, and within an hour, we were hitting the road.  We grabbed lunch and started walking around the Main Street area, and that's when I found the store of my oddity-loving dreams.

A Love of the Weird

Since I was a kid, I have been intrigued by the "strange and unusual," as Lydia Deetz said.  So when I was in college and a show called Oddities came on TV, I was instantly hooked.  That's where I learned that there was actually a name for the weird stuff I thought was cool.  I have a vintage cabinet in my house dedicated to old things, oddities, and weird little things I find here and there. So when I walked by Firehouse Antiques and Oddities in New Harmony, I HAD to go in and explore, and I'm glad I did! 

Firehouse Antiques & Oddities

On Main Street in New Harmony is an old firehouse that has been completely transformed into a wonderland of vintage finds and weird things.  To say I am now obsessed with this store is an understatement. I kept wandering around Firehouse Antiques & Oddities, and I probably looked like a crazy person. I bet I did at least five laps around the place.  Every time I walked back by an area, I'd spot something else.  I had to practice some serious self-restraint not to purchase everything in sight.  And truly, they have everything there!

Everything was displayed in such a way that this place almost felt like a museum.  It is just truly one of the coolest stores I've ever come across in Southern Indiana.

If you want old mortuary items, they have them.  Want an old Donald Duck costume from decades ago that is both terrifying and intriguing?  They have one! If you're a fan of antique Evansville items, they have plenty! In the backroom, they have a ton of vintage stuff that is a gearhead's treasure trove, including old road maps, oil cans, and a huge Amoco flame.

You can see some photos I took around the store below, but just know this isn't even half of the stuff they have.  I will definitely be making a trip to New Harmony soon to peruse Firehouse Antiques & Oddities again, and next time I'll plan to also hit up a Ghost Walk while I'm in town!
