This is quite a jolt to the transportation industry. Multiple reports indicate that a major Illinois trucking company with 480 drivers is suddenly ceasing operations. They are one of the main haulers for the US postal service.

The website The Trucker is reporting that an Illinois-based trucking company has just notified its 480 drivers that they are closing their doors. The company they are reporting the closure of is Midwest Transport. I've found confirmations from Freight Waves and The Street.

Postal Times mentions the closure and also says that Midwest Transport is a major hauler for the US Postal Service.

It's important to note several things here. First, The Trucker has noted that as of this writing, Midwest Transport has not filed for bankruptcy and is continuing operations, but they also say that their attempts to contact the company have gone unanswered. They report there was an internal email to drivers alerting them to proceed with US Mail deliveries through this past weekend and then to be aware "operations should be following the instructions from your load planners on returning. Terminal and office personnel will receive information and updates from your managers as we progress through this transition".

As this is a developing story, it will be updated once the company announces official plans and/or confirms the shutdown and closure of its operations.
