Sale of 35 Illinois Grocery Stores May Now Be on Permanent Hold?
It's not easy to complete a merger of two companies into one. If you doubt this, this is a great example. Thanks to new court activity, the sale of 35 Illinois grocery stores may now be on a permanent hold.
The word of Kroger and Albertson's planning to combine their assets into one company rocked the grocery store world when it was first announced. According to ABC 7 out of Chicago, there is now a lawsuit filed by a state that hopes to stop the combining of these companies permanently.
They report that the Colorado attorney general has filed a lawsuit to forever halt the mega-merger of Kroger and Albertson's because they believe it will eliminate needed competition and cause consumer prices to rise more than they already have.
The report goes on to say that both companies have agreed to pause the merger plans until a court hears the case late in September. The state of Colorado seems to be very pleased with this response as they now think that potential price hikes or further activity if this merger were to have proceeded will now be delayed until after kids go back to school.
It appears that it's more than just Colorado that is trying to stop this grocery store merger as 9News out of Denver says unions are against it, too.
Now we wait until the end of September to see if this grocery store merger will go through and how that will affect 35 Illinois grocery stores if it does.
