There is some science to decide what intersections in Illinois are more dangerous than others. Statistically, the most perilous in the Land of Lincoln has a collision rate exceeding all others with nearly 200 collisions and if you've driven through it, you know why.

If you want to know the most dangerous places to drive, ask an auto insurance company. I found some interesting data about dangerous intersections in Illinois on the American Auto Insurance website. This one has a collision rate of 293 with 196 vehicular accidents during the latest 3 year measuring period.

This is the intersection of East 79th Street and South Stony Island Avenue in Chicago. It's a shooting gallery of traveling lanes with a half dozen different side streets meeting in one place.

If you travel down South Stony Island Avenue, you'll find the 2nd most dangerous intersection in Illinois at East 95th Street and South Stony Island Avenue. That area has seen 160 collisions.

Illinois unfortunately has many candidates for the worst intersection, but when it comes down to pure numbers, these two in Chicago are the most dangerous. It's always a good idea when driving through the Windy City to pile on a couple extra layers of caution, but especially at these places.
