I am both a fan and also a bit paranoid about what machine learning can do. While I am concerned about where this eventually will lead, I do appreciate the artificial intelligence can be helpful in cases like this where I asked the robots about the best places in Illinois and which ones to avoid and it shared many warnings.

Before I share the results, a word of warning from me. While artificial intelligence claims it gives you advice based on data, I have to wonder if it doesn't also incorporate stereotypes and/or opinions shared by others on the net. That being said, what AI came up with is probably a good starting place for Illinois cities and towns that lack safety in some places.

Danville, Illinois

Economic struggles and school performance in Danville were flagged as primary reasons to avoid settling here if you can help it. I've had family that lived in Danville and had no problems, so your mileage may vary.

Cahokia Heights, Illinois

Why avoid Cahokia Heights? Artificial intelligence says sewer issues are bad here. The fact that it's rubbing elbows with East St. Louis likely isn't a plus either.

Peoria, Illinois

Economic disparity and "spotty" school quality were warnings from AI when Peoria, Illinois came up.

Some areas in Chicago, Illinois

I was pleasantly surprised when artificial intelligence didn't just give a blanket warning for all of Chicago, but said "Englewood, West Garfield Park, Austin, and North Lawndale" were areas to approach with caution. Anyone that lives in Chicagoland knows that some of the best places to live in America are in and around Chicago. Yes, there are trouble spots, but they are the exception and not the rule.

East St. Louis, Illinois

This is the only place on this list that I can agree that you should 100% stay away from. I can find nice areas in nearly every Illinois city except this one. Avoid even traveling through East St. Louis, Illinois if you can.
