Call me crazy, but I have no idea how to tell if a pig in Illinois is happy or sad. The key, according to a new report, is allowing artificial intelligence handle that job as the robots do know what pigs want - apparently.

If you're an Illinois pig farmer, I would highly recommend you read this report just shared by Reuters. It's about how artificial intelligence is now being used to "decode oinks and grunts" from pigs to determine what they want and need.

These scientists have really done their research and have logged thousands of different pig sounds and plugged them into an algorithm which lets the farmers know what the pigs are asking for. It's hog wild.

There is some wisdom to all this as the farmers know that high-pitched squeals mean the pigs are stressed while the lower octave grunts are relaxed and happy. The biggest question that comes to mind is whether or not a relaxed pig results in better bacon than the stressed ones? Asking for a friend.

In all seriousness, I'm sure it's helpful when farmers can understand when pigs need to be separated or fed and if that means employing robots to help make those good decisions, I suppose that's fine.
