I had no idea the fee to take a GED test in Kentucky was $120. I say was because Governor Andy Beshear announced this week the fee will be removed. Adults wishing to enter the workforce will have one less obstacle to face.

Beshear said over 335,000 Kentuckians over 18 don't have their GED or high school diploma.

The initiative will be facilitated through a new website, Kentucky Skills U. The state program will provide free adult education services in all 120 Kentucky counties to help those obtain their GED.

Lt. Governor Jacqueline Coleman said $600,000 would be set aside each year for the program, which will help 5,000 first-time test takers.
