On October 14 and 15, history comes to life as the museum hosts the Columbus Indiana Huey, a meticulously restored 1970 UH-1 Huey Helicopter straight from the battlefields of Vietnam. Not only can you see this iconic helicopter, but you can also take it for a spin during 15-20-minute rides throughout the day.

Why is the Huey So Important?

There is a reason the Huey is so iconic and so widely recognizable. It played a major role in our military's history. The U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center sums it up pretty well...

By 1958, the first Hueys were shipped to Vietnam and used by American advisors in "dustoff" medical evacuation (medevac) missions. As the Vietnam War raged, the Army integrated the helicopter into its wider operations and expanded the platform's role far beyond medevac.  Widespread use made the UH-1 Iroquois an icon of the Vietnam War and it remains one of the most widely used helicopters in the world.
