Maiden's Brewery in Evansville is now offering a beer brewed with Ski.

Westsiders, rejoice! Maiden's brewery in Evansville has added the perfect partner to their Grippo-flavored beer - SKI BEER! That's right, it's a beer brewed with Evansville's favorite soda. "Bonnie" is a light, citrusy radler brewed with Ski soda. It has real lemon and orange flavors. Maiden's suggests trying it with a "Dixie", the BBQ Grippo amber ale, for a true Westside sampler.

Being a die-hard Westsider and an avid Ski-lover, I had to try it.

Turns out, even in the form of beer, it still looks just like Ski...and tastes just like it, too.

Here's the breakdown: upon first sip, I immediately tasted the Ski. There is no denying this brew was made with the soda. I would also compare the flavor similar to a Blue Moon - citrus-y and light. It's like if a Blue Moon was just a tad sweeter. In my opinion, it was more lime than orange-flavored, which is true the soda itself.

Now, just because Ski is a delicious soda doesn't mean it makes a great beer. Overall, I'd give the brew a 7/10. While it did taste very similar to Ski, I personally didn't care for it all that much. I wanted just a tad more carbonation, if that's even possible to do.  However, there's no denying that Maiden's knows what they're doing. And, just because it isn't for me doesn't mean it isn't for everyone.

While we sipped, we ordered the pulled pork nachos to snack on. Holy moly they were GOOD. The jalapenos were crisp and fresh and there was a super generous amount of meat on the chips. I could've used a tad more spice and a tad less sweet, but I'd order them again no doubt.

The staff at Maiden's were helpful and friendly. Maiden's is family friendly as well, so I was able to bring my baby along and make it a lunch date.

I can't wait to see what other westside creations Maiden's comes up with in the future. If you haven't checked them out yet, they're located on Wabash Ave of Flags, just off the Lloyd/Franklin.
