Melissa's Son Turns One

You may remember last year I was gone for like three months, and that's because last September my husband and I welcomed our first child into the world, Riley.  You can check out some sweet newborn photos of Baby Awesome, here.   It's so wild to me that he's been here a whole year already!

One thing I've heard a LOT since becoming a mom is "it goes by fast" and while, that's true, this year has been the fastest, but also slowest year of my life (I've learned being a parent is a lot of contradicting feelings).  On one hand, my son being put into my arms for the first time feels like yesterday, but it also feels like an entire lifetime ago.   This past year has been both the most challenging, and incredible year of my entire life thanks to this tiny human who amazes me every single day.  So let's celebrate the little dude who made me a mom!

A Rockin' First Birthday

We decided to have the theme for Riley's birthday be "Riley Rocks" because even though he's one, he does, in fact, rock.

He also is a big fan of Meshuggah. It's true, ever since he was a newborn, for some reason if we put a Meshuggah record on he was calm and would go to sleep. To this day if Riley is having a meltdown, my husband and I will put on Meshuggah and he will just chill out and enjoy the music.  So that being said we figured a rock n' roll-themed party was perfect for him. Of course with his mom being in rock radio, and both of his parents being metal heads, I don't think Riley had much of a choice but to love music.

Of course, no rocker's outfit is complete without a battle vest, so I made Riley his very own.  This was a denim jacket I bought at Target, cut the sleeves off of it, and ironed on some band patches. I was super happy with how it turned out.
