Recently, one of my friends adopted this tiny designer breed doggo from someone who couldn't keep it anymore. She mentioned the original owner tried returning it to the breeder, but they refused to take it back. To me, that's a huge red flag when it comes to breeders.

Back when I was in high school, my family bred Pembroke Welsh Corgis to help me pay for college. We didn't have DNA testing back then, but we focused on breeding for excellent confirmation, temperament, and health. Our contract with buyers stipulated that if they couldn't keep a dog, it had to come back to us. We once had a situation where a Corgi we sold started herding and nipping kids, so we found him a new home with a family without children who absolutely adored him. We needed to vet the families they would go to and decide on the best fit.

Nowadays, it's disheartening to see so many beautiful (and pricey) doodles ending up in shelters. It seems like backyard breeders are popping up everywhere, contributing to the increasing number of unwanted pets.

Take for instance, the Warrick Humane Society, where they've been caring for a litter of mixed doodle terriers for months now. Let me introduce you to The Meats: T-Bone, Prime Rib, Sirloin, and Brisket.

This week's spotlight is on Sirloin. He's been at the shelter along with his siblings for 75 days now. Sirloin, a 10-month-old Doodle mix, is fully vaccinated, dewormed, and protected against fleas and ticks. He's even microchipped and heartworm negative.

Sirloin and his brothers have been at the shelter since they were just 5 months old, originally under Webster County Animal Control before moving to Warrick Humane Society. Despite their rough start, Sirloin and his crew are super sweet and playful. They adore each other's company and love being around people, though they can be a bit shy with new things.

Because they've been waiting so patiently, the shelter is offering a 20% discount on the adoption fee for Sirloin and his siblings. If you're interested, swing by during their open hours: Wednesday to Thursday from 12 to 7, and Friday to Sunday from 12 to 4. They'd love to meet you!

Petting Zoos Within Driving Distance of the Tri-State

Anyone who knows me knows that I prefer animals over people most days. I tell my boyfriend all of the time that when we retire, I want a little plot of land with some cows, goats, pigs, chickens, and a whole lot of dogs. A girl can dream, right?
Sadly, since I can't have my own farm anytime soon, I guess I will settle for enjoying other people's animals, which means frequenting petting zoos and farms is pretty common for us. Luckily, I don't have to drive far to pet all the animals I can fit into a day.
From elephants to highland cattle to Clydesdales and a coatimundi, the tristate offers a wide variety of petting zoos that can be visited in a short day trip. Next thing you know, you'll be making your own list of animals to have on your own dream farm like me.

How To Tell Someone You're From Warrick County Without Saying You're From Warrick County

There are several ways to tell someone where you're from without actually telling them where you're from. Let's take Warrick County for example.
