There have been hints dropped for weeks now and, today, the City of Owensboro confirmed those rumors.  Mayor Tom Watson hosted a 3pm news conference to detail plans for a new hotel, apartment building and parking garage in downtown Owensboro.

This is a rendering of the entire complex.

Mayor Watson detailed plans for the new 120-room hotel, which will be constructed across the street from the Owensboro Convention Center.  The hotel will be the third downtown hotel constructed as part of a multi-year, multi-million dollar revitalization of downtown Owensboro.  Mayor Watson says the hotel is necessary to help the Owensboro Convention Center pursue "bigger shows and events."  The new hotel, which will be named in a couple of weeks, will join the Hampton Inn & Suites Downtown and the Holiday Inn Downtown Owensboro as hotels serving visitors in our downtown area.

Hotel construction details will be announced soon but the estimated completion date of the project is late 2021.  Mayor Watson says a complete rendering of the new hotel will also be forthcoming.

While the new hotel seeks to increase the number of visitors to town, the new apartment complex aims to revitalize the downtown area by increasing the area's residential appeal.
