The definition of a hero is when someone helps some one in need. That is exactly what Josh Brown, his wife Sara and a small group of his friends and neighbors have done for the many who benefit from what Chemo Buddies does for those going through chemotherapy.

Josh Brown and his buddies throw a themed Mustache Party every year to raise money for Chemo Buddies. This year is had a Halloween theme. Here is their story for the Chemo Buddies Facebook page.

A few years ago, a small group of men folk decided to participate in no-shave November, and as they talked, they agreed, they should throw a party to celebrate their freshly shaved faces.

Next, they decided it needed to be a theme party.
Next, Josh Brown offered to have it in his garage and go ALL OUT on decorations for the theme.
Next, the fellas decided they should go all out in making this a full blown fundraiser, and enlisted the help of their family members.

Lastly, they wanted to make sure the money stayed local to help local people, and they chose Chemo Buddies to be their beneficiary.

Each year this garage party is held and each year we are amazed at the absolute outrageous creativity and equally outrageous generosity. Each year something gets added, and each year, the grand total rises.

But this year???? This year, we are shocked, stunned, grateful and amazed. THIS YEAR this small group of friends raised $9,000 for Chemo Buddies with their little Mustache Party.

Let me circle back and remind you, this is just a small group of friends celebrating each other and raising money to help local cancer patients.

Chemo Buddies serve at every single treatment center in our area, and we are the only cancer related charity that serves directly in the treatment room. Like this amazing group of people, we are just a group of friends doing the best we can to serve those people and try to make this horrible journey with cancer, a little better.

Being Local is great, but it certainly has its drawbacks. We don't have a big mothership with giant ad agencies and marketing teams to help get our message out, or provide fancy brochures and company pieces. We don't have thousands of employees- in fact, the vast majority of our workforce are volunteers! Recently, we were actually told by a certain healthcare facility that they prefer to support national charities only because it gets them better name recognition within the community. (Want to know how much we've spent on advertising the past 8 years? ZERO. Our money goes directly to patient care. Thats why we don't have a giant paid staff, don't pay rent and other overhead costs - the only thing that matters to us... is YOU.)

So when this group of fine human beings came into our world and asked how they could help, you know it just melted our hearts... and now, they have blown our minds as well.

In a nutshell, this long post can be summed up with the simple premise of PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE. There are many things I hate in this world, cancer being one of them, but at the end of the day, we live in one heck of a community with friends and neighbors that truly care about each other.

God is good.

On behalf of all Chemo Buddies, and ALL of our friends in the recliners - Thank you Josh and Sara and your entire tribe. We can only do what we do because of local do-gooders like you. 💜💜💜
