Mario seems to a source of inspiration for a lot of artists, including Denver, Colorado chalk artist, Chris Carlson who may have created the coolest tribute to everybody's favorite princess-saving plumber yet.

Using a blank slab of concrete as his canvas, a box of chalk as his utensils, and time lapse photography to capture the magic, Carlson spent 11 hours earlier this month creating this amazing piece of art. Using well-placed shading and angled lines to give the impression of depth, the finished product appears as if Mario is actually standing and not just a drawing on flat piece of concrete. I had to remind myself repeatedly that while it appears to be in 3-D, the drawing is actually 2-D.
