Hasbro’s Spider-Man Homecoming Marvel Legends Offers Detailed Look at New Vulture
No sooner did we get our first official trailer for Spider-Man Homecoming did Hasbro roll out the first action figure from the upcoming Sony/Marvel Studios team-up. Spider-Man already got his debut in a special Marvel Legends Captain America: Civil War set with Iron Man and Captain America, so instead of just rehashing a new version of him (which will likely happen anyway), we're getting our first good look at the new Vulture from the rebooted franchise.
Hasbro’s Marvel Legends Adds Netflix Heroes, More X-Men Than You Would Believe [SDCC 2016]
If there's one thing we can count on at San Diego Comic-Con, it's getting an update on the next batch of characters to be immortalized by Hasbro in the Marvel Legends action figure line. Still kicking strong after all these years, the Marvel Legends brand has been home to a number of outstanding releases as of late, but this SDCC may have taken the cake as the best for reveals yet. Don't believe me? Feast your eyes on this gallery showing of the latest additions from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, some deep cuts from the comics, and if you can believe it, more X-Men!
Hot Toys Goes Back to the Iron Man 3 Well for Its Latest Quarter-Scale Figure
Who has more Iron Man armors, Tony Stark or Hot Toys?
With this latest entry in the Hot Toys' quarter-scale line, the Hong Kong company is certainly trying to go toe-to-toe with Tony Stark's very own Hall of Armor. We're well beyond the half-century mark with regards to the number of Iron Man pieces in Hot Toys' catalog, and that's only counting the actual sixth- and quarter-scale figures. We might be approaching nearly 100 different figures if we start throwing in the Cosbaby and Artist Mix lines as well.
But I've since come to embrace Hot Toys' Iron Man favoritism. Iron Man sells, and if putting out another half-dozen Tony Stark figures over the course of the next year means we'll get more interesting characters from other licenses, so be it. It's not like they're bad figures either. This Iron Man 3 MK XLII is pretty damn impressive, even if it's a suit that's been done a few hundred times by Hot Toys and a number of other toy companies.
Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens Gameplay Trailer is Filled With Star Wars, New Mechanics
If you were concerned another Lego game coming so soon on the heels of Lego Dimensions, Lego Marvel's Avengers and Lego Jurassic World might mean Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens would stick too close to the familiar formula, this new gameplay trailer offers a bit of hope. Since the first entry arrived more than a decade ago, the Lego series hasn't changed all that much. The core foundation has been in dire need of a shake-up, and that's particularly true in a time when four Lego games will have shipped in a calendar year. Though there have been small adjustments and additions made over the course of the last 10 years, Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens appears to be making some significant improvements to the tried and true formula.
Ant-Man Rises to the Occasion With New SH Figuarts Figure
Ant-Man hasn't been a major fixture of the Captain America: Civil War promotion, but we've known he was going to be in the film ever since Falcon teased his imminent arrival with a post-credit blurb. Interestingly enough, there might be certain story reasons that Ant-Man's been absent from a lot of the toy line attention to this point, but we won't spoil that here today. No, instead, we're just going to take a look at the updated Ant-Man suit the character is apparently donning in the film.
Tamashii Nations' SH Figuarts Captain America: Civil War line already has its two biggest guns up for pre-order, but for the third character in the series, the company went with arguably the least well-known hero of the bunch. The SH Figuarts Ant-Man beats characters like Black Widow and Falcon to release, but that's sort of okay with us. It would be nice to get that Black Widow Figuarts after like sixty movies. Ant-Man doesn't exactly have a million toys exploding off of shelves either, but at least this time we know a Black Widow is almost definitely, probably, assuredly coming and not just a pipe dream. But hey, Ant-Man!
Toy Fair 2016: The Mattel Multiverse Adds Supergirl, Doomsday and More
After ditching the DC Universe Classics line and moving to 3.75" figures with the initial launch of DC Multiverse, it was a bit of a surprise to see Mattel would once again enter the 6" arena with the Multiverse collection. It made sense of course, given that DC Comics and Warner Bros. were releasing a new tentpole movie featuring all three of the comic company's iconic heroes, and (hopefully) kickstarting a cinematic universe. But the Multiverse line is much more than just Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, and as recent releases like Arrow's Green Arrow and The Flash's Flash have shown, Mattel has larger goals in mind for the figure line.
That DC TV love will continue into the next wave, which will introduce CBS' Supergirl into the mix. It's good to see that a third party licensor sees the value of Supergirl toys, even as DC itself has struggled to find a way to make Kara Zor-el relevant in print and within its own collectibles. Green Arrow and Flash had to wait a season or two until they got their shot a figures, but Supergirl's jumping right out of the gate with her first attempt. That said, based on how infrequently the Multiverse line has shipped so far, it's unlikely we'll see this Supergirl figure until the fall. We've still got the second half of the Dawn of Justice wave and the TV/comics mix to come, plus those Suicide Squad figures.
‘Justice League Action’ Brings Bite-sized Heroics to the Cartoon Network
DC's Trinity will return to television in an all-new animated series on the Cartoon Network for the first time since Justice League Unlimited went off the air in 2006. While Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman have made some animated appearances elsewhere, Justice League Action will reunite the three biggest heroes at DC Comics to star in their first weekly adventures in seven years.
What's more, Kevin Conroy is coming back to the role that made him one of the biggest stars in DC and Warner Bros. film and television, Batman. Though he's frequently reprised the role over in the home video and video game realms, Conroy hasn't dabbled with the voice of Batman on a recurring series since JLU ended. The actors for Superman and Wonder Woman haven't been revealed as of yet, but I suppose we can all keep our fingers crossed for Tim Daly and Susan Eisenberg to make the dream team reunion a reality.
Like a Rainbow in the Dark, DC Collectibles Announces New Batman Figure Set
One year ago, DC Collectibles opened its "vault" of unproduced prototypes in celebration of hitting a social media milestone. Included therein were figures based on DC Universe Online, statues for Ame-Comi Mary Marvel and a Black Manta bust, among others. Instead of leaving all of these first-party collectibles locked away forever inside the archives, DC Collectibles asked fans to vote for which item they'd like to see finally be produced. Then there was silence... until today when the dull winter sky was broken by a glorious rainbow in the shape of Batman.
Yes, that's right; the Sheldon Moldoff-inspired Rainbow Batmen are coming and there's nothing you can do to stop it now. You had your chance to vote for 3.75" New 52 figures, and you blew it. Unless you voted for these, in which case, congratulations, all of your dreams are coming true in amazing technicolor fashion!
