Here's the scenario; you want to go for a bike ride and feel the wind in your hair as you enjoy the Evansville scenery and get a little exercise. One problem, you don't have a bike. Thanks to the Welborn Baptist Foundation's Upgrade campaign and the downtown YMCA, that problem is solved with a bike rental.

Even though the YMCA is literally four blocks away from the station, it's not part of the daily route I take to get to and from work, so I didn't even know the outdoor rental lockers on the corner of 6th and Court streets existed until I drove that way while running out to get lunch a week or so back.

Even though I have a perfectly good bicycle at home that I enjoy riding from time to time, I was curious as to how the bike rentals work. As it turns out, it only takes a few minutes to get a bike and take it for a spin.

Simply stop in the Downtown YMCA and fill out a rental contract, provide credit card info and ID to the registration desk, pay for your rental time (rates below), and finally get the key to the bike locker and enjoy the ride!

The program offers both men and women's bikes, as well as kids bikes so the whole family can enjoy a ride and stay active.

Rentals are available from 5:00am to 8:00pm Monday through Thursday, 5:00am to 7:00pm on Friday's, Saturday's from 6:00am to 5:00pm, and Sunday's from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at the following rates:
