Evansville residents now have two choices when it comes to 21st century ride sharing options as Uber competitor, Lyft, has announced the city is one of 50 included in what they're calling their "largest launch to date."

The company's announcement was more under-the-radar compared to their counterpart who announced their expansion into Evansville in early December, roughly six weeks before the service was actually available to residents. Uber's official launch came complete with a press conference downtown, and Mayor Lloyd Winnecke becoming the first Uber rider in town.

Lyft on the other hand simply announced their expansion through a press release on its website Thursday morning, mere hours before the service launched, which according to Evansville Courier and Press reporter, Richard Gootee was Noon Thursday.

Just like Uber, Lyft works through a free app for your phone.
