The Vanderburgh Humane Society (VHS) is hoping to get in the running for a share of a $500,000 grant being awarded by the ASPCA and TV personality Rachel Ray, but they need your help to make it happen.

The 2012 ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge is a nationwide competition for animal shelters (and their communities) aimed at getting more animals adopted or returned to their owners. To be considered for the grant, registered shelters across the country, like the VHS, must get their community to cast a vote in their favor at www.votetosavelives.org during the qualifying heat which begins this Thursday, April 5th and ends at 11pm Evansville time on Sunday, April 15th.

The top 50 vote getters will then be the contestants in the running to win a share of the $500,000 including the $100,000 grand prize! Of the many things we do well here in the Evansville area, rallying around a worthy cause is by far our best trait and helping the VHS compete for this grant couldn't be easier. Just visit www.votetosavelives.org starting Thursday, cast your vote for the VHS and you're done!
