Twitter Reveals the Top Tweets of 2013
Twitter has announced the top tweets of 2013 — and the No. 1 most popular posting was also one of the saddest.
Lea Michele‘s first public acknowledgement of boyfriend Cory Monteith‘s death in July was named the “Golden Tweet,” aka the most retweeted post of the year. Her poignant post and accompanying photo of the ‘Glee‘ co-stars hugging and smiling was retweeted more than 408,000 times from 133 countries.
Thank you all for helping me through this time with your enormous love & support. Cory will forever be in my heart. pic.twitter.com/XVlZnh9vOc

A Golden Tweet is “the one that resonated most with millions of Twitter users around the world,” Twitter says in a blog post. Also resonating with Twitter users worldwide was the shocking death of another young star: Paul Walker. His staff’s confirmation of Walker’s death in a Nov. 30 car accident was retweeted 400,367 times.

But it wasn’t all bad news on Twitter this past year. The Golden Tweet second runner-up was Niall Horan of One Direction, sharing some happy news with fans in September:
Yesss ! I’m 20 ! Wohooo ! No more teens!
