A contractor plans a northbound lane restriction on the US 41 Twin Bridges between Henderson and Evansville for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, March 2, 3, & 4, 2017, with a southbound lane restriction planned for Saturday evening through Sunday evening, March 4 & 5.

The contractor is optimistic work to install new solar powered navigation lights on the Twins, remove the old navigation lighting system, and repair inspection access ladders can be completed this weekend if the weather cooperates.

The contractor plans a daytime work zone lane restriction on the northbound bridge Thursday and Friday, March 2 & 3, 2017.  Motorists can expect to encounter a northbound lane restriction between about 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., CST, on Thursday and Friday.

The contractor plans to resume work on the northbound bridge starting at 9 p.m., Friday, March 3, and continuing around the clock until approximately 6 p.m., CST, on Saturday, March 4th.

The contractor anticipates moving to the southbound bridge around 6 p.m., CST, on Saturday, and continuing with a lane restriction on the southbound bridge until about 6 p.m., on Sunday, March 5th.

All traffic will be moved to the left-hand or passing lane during the work.

Motorists should be alert for slowing and merging traffic as they approach the US 41 Twin Bridges Thursday through Sunday.  Commuters should allow extra travel time.  Appropriate caution is required where equipment, flaggers, and other personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.

Again, with good weather, the contractor hopes to complete installation of the new solar nav light system this weekend.

TEM Group is the prime contractor on the $600,864 solar navigation light upgrade project.  The target completion date is May 1, 2017.

A contractor is planning to start upgrades on the Henderson end of the southbound bridge approaches in coming weeks.   Much of this work to prepare for a coming deck overlay on the southbound bridge can be completed without lane restrictions.  Another contractor has some guardrail work to complete along the approaches to the US 41 Twin Bridges in coming weeks.

These maintenance projects on the US 41 Twin Bridges have to be completed before the start of a major rehab planned along the US 41 Corridor in mid-May.  The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) and Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) are planning a major 3-year rehabilitation project along the US 41 Corridor between the US 41 Twin Bridges and the I-69 Interchange at the south edge of Evansville starting in May of 2017.  This joint project includes a deck overlay driving surface on the southbound bridge.  For more information go to: http://www.in.gov/indot/3459.htm

The US 41 Twin Bridges, also known as the Bi-State Viet Nam Gold Star Memorial Bridges, are located at US 41 mile point 19.649 about a mile south of the Kentucky-Indiana State Line.  They carry approximately 40,000 vehicles per day across the Ohio River between Henderson, KY, and Evansville, IN.

The bridges are located about a mile downstream from the confluence of the Green River and the Ohio River at Ohio River navigation mile point 786.8.  The Twin Bridges have a total length of 5, 393.6 ft. with a 720 ft. main navigation span.  The bridge superstructure is a Warren cantilevered through-truss design.

The northbound bridge was opened to traffic on July 4, 1932.  The southbound bridge was opened to traffic on December 16, 1965.
