Willard Library - The Grey Lady:

Ask just about anyone in Evansville where the most haunted place in town is and they'll point you towards Willard Library and tell you about their experience with the Grey Lady.  Legend has it the Grey Lady is Louise Carpenter, daughter of Willard Carpenter, who founded the library in 1876.  When he died in 1883 he left the bulk of his fortune to the library he founded, which angered Louise.  She sued but lost and it is for that reason, many believe, her ghost haunts the library today.  Whomever the Grey Lady is, she is so well-known and well-documented that 3 cameras monitor the activity in the library 24 hours a day so people can catch a glimpse of her.

The Carpenter House:

The home of Evansville's philanthropic benefactor, and the Grey Lady, was the Carpenter House - just a few blocks from the library.  Now the offices and studios of WNIN, employees say they sometimes hear strange noises in the old house, equipment will stop working for no reason, doors slam without anyone nearby, the list goes on and on.  Though undocumented, the Carpenter House on 3rd Street is another of the best known places in Evansville with a reputation for being haunted.

Owensboro - The Old Theatre Workshop:

Head down the Ohio river and you'll find yourself in Owensboro, the home of the Old Theatre Workshop.  In 1809, what is now a theater was a church and according to local legend a young priest and his family lived there.  The daughter of the family was being courted by a young man the priest did not approve of and one day the girl came home and told her father she was pregnant.  Her father flew into a rage, so the story goes, and told her he was disappointed in her.  She was so upset that she ran up to the bell tower of the church and hung herself.  Her father, overwhelmed with grief, apparently killed himself in the basement of the church.  To this day, so people say, lights turn on and off constantly and you can hear a bell ring in the bell tower except there is no bell in the bell tower!  Some say the basement is haunted too.  Many claim to have been pushed while standing in front of the basement.
