Apparently, the "need for speed" is one that never goes away. Tom Cruise told MTV.com that plans are in the works for a sequel to the epic 1986 film Top Gun.

"We're working on it," was Cruise's answer when asked by MTV's Josh Horowitz during a trip to Dubai to promote Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol. Rumors of a possible sequel hit the internet a little over a year ago but died off as all the players involved began working on other projects. Cruise went on to tell Horowitz that two key elements to making the sequel was a quality script and the ability to give the movie the same type of tone as the original back in '86.

I remember the first time I watched this movie with my parents (on VHS!). They asked me to leave the room during one particular scene and I didn't understand why at the time (I was around 10 at the time), but nonetheless I stepped and waited for the "all clear" signal. It wasn't until years later after watching the movie again that the scene I couldn't see then involved a young Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis "enjoying each other's company" (to keep it kid-friendly).

If the planets align properly and Top Gun 2 gets made, unless it looks just unbelievably good, I'll probably hold off until it gets released on Blu-ray. What about you?
