On Bellemeade Ave. between Green River Rd. and Hebron Ave. my girlfriend and I noticed a new Mexican restaurant quickly went up replacing the void filled by now-defunct Sirloin Stockade.  Since we both like Mexican cuisine, and we've eaten at literally all of the other Mexican joints in town multiple times, we were excited to try out this new Herradura.

I believe Herradura opened here in Evansville in either late January or early February, but because I've been immobilized due to my back surgery, this was literally the first restaurant of any kind that I have eaten at in more than two months.  I'm happy to report that my return to "restauranting" did not disappoint, and that Herradura can hang with the very best of Evansville plentiful selection of Mexican restaurants!

I'll save you the work of Googling it for yourself and tell you that "Herradura" is the Spanish word for "Horseshoe."  This explains the presence of the giant horseshoe on their sign and logo.  The dining area is relatively casual, so while you don't have to dress up in a suit and tie, I wouldn't show up in my sweats or pajamas either.  It's about as fancy as any of its fellow Mexican restaurants in town.

We showed up around 6:00 PM on a Friday night.  Some restaurants might have a wait at this time of day, but Herradura has plenty of seating and we did not have to wait to be seated.  Because of my aforementioned surgery, we asked if a booth was available and they were happy to oblige.  Shortly after we were seated, my girlfriend and I were struggling a bit with a bright sun in our eyes.  We're not the type to usually complain about this type of thing, but our waiter noticed we might be uncomfortable and immediately asked us if we'd like to move to a different seat.  That was really nice and was appreciated greatly.

Our good service didn't end there, as we found our waiter to be attentive and polite for our entire stay.  We were always stocked on complimentary chips and salsa (a subtle but underrated attribute to the experience) and our beverages.  The food met all of my requirements of a great restaurant; It was GOOD, it was INEXPENSIVE, and it offered generous PORTION sizes.  I ordered an enchilada dish, and my girlfriend ordered a vegetarian fajita meal and we both left with plenty to eat the next day.  Most dinners on the menu seemed to range from $8-12, more than reasonable considering how much food you get for the price.

My girlfriend and I both agreed that our experience at Herradura was a very positive one, and we're excited to return sometime soon for another visit!
