The Rob’s Grammy Predictions
The Rob tells you what to expect from this year's Grammy Awards!
While I think that the Grammies are really the SECOND biggest night in music, (they’ve actually become less relevant than MTV’s Video Music Awards if you ask me) I still always look forward to the show. I am always full of opinions when it comes to music. I’ll also say I really thought the nominees this year are only so-so at best. There were better choices in pretty much every category that I find important. Even still, I have categorized my preferences and predictions for some key categories:
Record Of The Year
- Lonely Boy - The Black Keys
- Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You) - Kelly Clarkson
- We Are Young - Fun. Featuring Janelle Monáe
- Somebody That I Used To Know - Gotye Featuring Kimbra
- Thinkin Bout You - Frank Ocean
- We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together – Taylor Swift
While I think that these are not a good representation of the best records of the year (I’m still organizing my thoughts as to the biggest records this year for a future blog), I would LIKE to see fun. win, but EXPECT to see Gotye win. I actually am predicting a big night for Gotye.
Album Of The Year
- El Camino -The Black Keys
- Some Nights - Fun.
- Babel - Mumford & Sons
- Channel Orange - Frank Ocean
- Blunderbuss - Jack White
I actually feel bad commenting on this category because with the exception of the big singles, I haven’t heard any of the full-length albums mentioned above. I would be happy if Frank Ocean won here, but expect The Black Keys to do walk away with it
Song Of The Year
- The A Team
- Adorn
- Call Me Maybe
- Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)
- We Are Young
I think that “Call Me Maybe” probably DESERVES to win this, but I don’t think it will. I think that it’s too low-brow for those pulling the strings here. I would LIKE to see Miguel’s hit “Adorn” win, I would definitely put my money on “We Are Young.”
Best New Artist
Alabama Shakes
Fun.
Hunter Hayes
The Lumineers
Frank Ocean
This one is actually tough to call. fun. has been getting too much love in other categories to ignore here. And honestly, they’re not a bad choice for Best New Artist.
Best Pop Solo Performance
- Set Fire To The Rain [Live] - Adele
- Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You) - Kelly Clarkson
- Call Me Maybe - Carly Rae Jepsen
- Wide Awake - Katy Perry
- Where Have You Been – Rihanna.
This one IS easy… It’s all Adele, I’d bet the farm. (I don’t actually own a farm, but if I did…)
Best Rap Performance
- HYFR (Hell Ya F***ing Right) - Drake Featuring Lil' Wayne
- N****s In Paris - Jay-Z & Kanye West
- Daughters - Nas
- Mercy - Kanye West Featuring Big Sean, Pusha T & 2 Chainz
- I Do - Young Jeezy Featuring Jay-Z & André 3000
I think the easy answer here is “Paris,” or maybe even “Mercy” (my personal preference in “Paris”), I wouldn’t be surprised to see Nasty Nas clean up here due to the track’s positive message combined with lyrical talent.
Best Rap/Sung Collaboration
- Wild Ones - Flo Rida Featuring Sia
- No Church In The Wild - Jay-Z & Kanye West Featuring Frank Ocean & The-Dream
- Tonight (Best You Ever Had) John Legend Featuring Ludacris
- Cherry Wine - Nas Featuring Amy Winehouse
- Talk That Talk - Rihanna Featuring Jay-Z
Five words: No. Church. In. The. Wild.
