Does it live up to the hype?

This weekend I went out and saw The Conjuring.  I am definitely a huge fan of scary movies, and I've heard that this movie is one of the scariest of all-time!  While that may be giving it too much credit, it's definitely worth going out to see if you like the horror genre.

In my opinion, this is NOT one of the scariest movies of all-time, BUT it IS a great scary movie.  I WILL say it is amongst the scariest movies of the past decade, maybe even the past 20 or 30 years, but to me it's not as scary as some of the classic scary movies from the early 80s and before.  I will also say that it takes a lot of what makes horror movies great and does  those things really well.

The plot develops nicely and keeps giving you just enough information so that you're not confused and you're not predicting what's to come.  There's no blood, no guts, no nudity, little foul language, it's R-rated simply because it's just too scary for kids.  It probably could have gotten away with a PG-13 rating, but young teens may be affected by the horrific images the movie contains.  I've never been the type of person that needs to look under the bed for monsters after I watch a scary movie, but if you're a soft touch it may stick with you for a night or two.  There were some moments that will make a hardened horror buff like myself jump, often due to be startled, but it will still get ya!

If you've been thinking about seeing The Conjuring, or even consider yourself a mild fan of scary movies, you should go see it.  The roller-coaster-like tension/release that accompanies any great horror title is present throughout the entire two hours of The Conjuring!
