The University of Vermont recently conducted a study using Twitter to decide which states were the happiest and saddest according to Twitter.

The University of Vermont/The Atlantic

They looked for certain "happy" words and "sad" words, here's what they found!

The five happiest states were:

Hawaii (shocker, right? if I lived in Hawaii I'd be happy all the time too!)

Maine

Nevada

Utah

Vermont

The five saddest were:

Louisiana

Mississippi

Maryland

Michigan

Deleware

The study was then broken down by The Atlantic and ranked the happiest urban areas they found

Napa, California was the happiest and then

Longmont, Colorado

San Clemente, California

Santa Fe, New Mexico

Santa Cruz, California

Then they found the saddest which were:

Beaumont, Texas

Albany, Georgia

Texas City, Texas

Shreveport, Louisiana

Monroe, Louisiana
