The Guy’s Guy – Top Five Actors Made Just for Men
Every movie lover has that list of actors that you just hear the name and you know you’re in for something great that is about to happen. As a guy that watches too many movies and watches movies too many times, my list of these actors is long. For you, I broke it down to the top five actors that are most likely to get my movie loving butt into that theater seat and watch their movie.
-by Steve Henning5. Jean Claude Van Damme
What draws me in is his action or fight scenes, his delivery of his characters and the one liners that are truly memorable to the true Van Damme fans. I know he is not as big as he was in the early 1990s, but there has not been a movie of his released that this guy wasn’t front and center for on opening night. Some of his best performances are Double Impact, Lionheart and Hard Target. Although a theatrical release for Jean Claude is a rarity now, to this day if there were an opening I’d be there.
4. Will Ferrell
What draws me in is his unapologetic, edgy humor and his devotion to the characters he portrays. He, in my opinion has a flop here and there, Semi-Pro. However he is one of the few guys that when I walk into one of his movies I have the forget everything outside of this movie fun time. The best examples of this are ELF and Talladega Nights as at the end of these movies I left the theater with an overwhelming good feeling.
3. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson
What draws me in is his unmatched charisma and presence. You don’t just watch a Dwayne Johnson movie, you experience it. He doesn’t make a bad movie whether he’s kicking butt in The Rundown and Fast Five or delivering a heartfelt performance as in Gridiron Gang and The Gameplan he just does his job highest level. I didn’t even mention his comedic ability.
2. Adam Sandler
What draws me in is his humility, loyalty to his friends in the business and most importantly his comedy style which I would pattern myself after if I were ever lucky enough to do what he does. I started watching Mr. Sandler on the small screen with his roles on The Cosby Show, MTV’s Remote Control and of course SNL. Now he did make Overboard which is still unwatchable to this day, but being funny for more than 25 years and only 1 movie I can’t watch is pretty remarkable if you ask me. My favorites are Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore and Waterboy. Even his dramatic performance in Reign Over Me is done very well and makes me wish he’d try different roles more often.
1. Vin Diesel
What draws me in his quiet cool and the passion he shows for his craft. He creates one of my favorite movie characters of all time, Dominic Toretto in The Fast and the Furious franchise. He’s not touted as the one of the best actors, but in my opinion he has an intangible quality that draws you in and makes you care about his characters. Movie trailers just need to mention his name and I’m there opening night. That has been true for any movie he has made.
