Ever since she purchased her oceanside mansion in Rhode Island last spring, Taylor Swift has had a rocky relationship with her new neighbors. Let's just say that it's gotten a bit rockier recently.

While she was having tea and FaceTiming with her famous pals Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato, a construction crew was digging up the coastline of her Westerly mansion and nearby residents are angry.

“She's tearing up the beach and everyone is pissed off about it,” a local tells RadarOnline.com. A new sea wall is reportedly being built below her $17 million Watch Hill property, which she bought in cash last April.

Last week, Connecticut newspaper columnist David Collins reported seeing a "fleet of big earth movers working on the cliff below Swift's mansion, busily, well, rearranging the rocky coastline... Not only is the Swift contractor plucking and moving around big ocean boulders, but they have added a whole new line of rock sea wall on what had previously been a public beach."

An investigation by Collins then turned up a bit of legal twist. "Imagine my surprise when I soon discovered that Swift has not obtained one single permit from the town for the cliff work, which could well be among the largest construction projects in [town] right now," he wrote.

Taylor famously stirred up controversy locally last summer when her security team blocked access to a public path to the beach.

"This is just the latest of all the things she's done to try to take over our beach since she moved in," another resident tells Radar. "She needs to realize that just because she bought a house overlooking the beach, she doesn't own it.”
