Wow! What a beautiful tribute to the King of Pop!
I would think that if you ("you" being MTV) held an artist in high enough regard that you felt they deserved a lifetime acheivement award, said award would come with a equally worthy tribute. Apparently, I am wrong. If missed it Sunday night, MTV awarded Britney Spears the Michael Jackson Video Vangard Award, essentially their version of a lifetime acheivement award. When other awards shows award such a prestigious award to one person, it is usually accompanied by a tribute of some kind; a performance by the awardee's peers, a video montage...something! These also usually last somewhere in the neighborhood of 5+ minutes. I guess in this age of instant gratification and short attention spans, MTV felt that 90 seconds was a sufficient amount of time to reflect on a lifetime of work.
Call me old fashioned, but I always thought that you generally waited until someone was near death or had been "in the business" for somewhere in the neighborhood of 30-plus years before you gave them a tribute at a major awards show. Turns out, like so many other times, I was wrong.
