Ryan O’Bryan’s Old School Jam of the Day for August 16th

I said I was going to do this every weekday starting yesterday and so far I'm 2-for-2. For me that's a major accomplishment. Yesterday I featured Tap the Bottle & Twist the Cap from Young Black Teenagers, today I bring you...Fu-Schnickens featuring Shaquille O'Neal (yes, THAT Shaquille O'Neal)

Ryan O’Bryan’s Old School Jam of the Day for August 15th

It's amazing to me how easy it is to get lost in YouTube . You know how it goes, you stop by to find a highlight from your favorite show (or whatever) and the next thing you know, you're watching a video of a cat expressing shock as he discovers that (SPOILER ALERT!) Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father.

Today's trip to YouTube ended up being surprisingly productive. I stumbled across a music video for an old school hip-hop song I hadn't heard in years which led me to come up with an idea for a daily feature here on 1061evansville.com. That idea would be "Ryan O'Bryan's Old School Jam of the Day" (hence the headline). I think the goal here is pretty self-explanitory. Each weekday, I will provide you with the video of an old school jam. This "old school jam" could be a song you hear us play from time to time on 106-1 KISS-FM, or, like today's submission, it could be one you haven't heard in years. Heck, it may not necessarily even be a hip-hop song. Now that you have the concept, I present to you today's entry...Young Black Teenagers.

How Big is Big Boy’s T-Shirt

It's always an exciting event when you receive a 6XL T-shirt in the mail.  We can ALL relate to trying on our XXXXXXL clothing to see if they fit, can't we?  Naturally, when we got our Ski Day shirts in, we had a hard time telling whose shirt was whose

If you were unable to stop by my live broadcast at Jagoe Home's Wynnfield Community, no worries. With the help of my trusty iPad, i filmed a quick video tour. It's by no means a professional video, but I think it gives you a pretty good idea of how nice Jagoe Homes are

Modern Day Ice Cream Shops’ Genius Lies in Their Laziness

I'm 34 years old and from what I understand there was a time, back in the day, when a person wanted to enjoy a good ol' fashioned ice cream sundae, they went to the local ice cream shop (or parlour as some were called) where a fresh-faced employee dressed in a red and white striped apron and paper hat would construct an ice cream sundae to their exact specifications. These creations were limited only by the imagination of the consumer. If you wanted a little bit of everything, you could get a little bit of everything. If you only wanted one topping, you had the freedom to make it happen.

Although the red and white striped aprons and hats may be gone, there are still several of these types of ice cream shops in the Evansville area with each offering their own variation on the timeless ice cream sundae. But there's a new kid in town with a fresh idea on this classic treat.

Cleaning Out CD’s Marks End of an Era

There was a time in my life when it seemed like I was buying at least one CD a week. That was also a time in my life when I still lived at home, wasn't married, and didn't have 2 kids to take care of. Outside of a vehicle payment, gas to make it go, and insurance, I had money to burn and I chose to burn that money on fast food, video games, and CD's.

At one point I had somewhere in the neighborhood of 200-225 compact discs on my CD rack organized in alphabetical order. Yes, I said alphabetical order. You could say that's a symptom of mild O.C.D., but I say it made finding the disc I wanted quick and convenient. Six of one, half dozen of the other I guess you could say. Anywho, back to the point. Most of my CD's were purchased, but as you might expect a good portion of them I had received for free through working at the station. I was pretty proud of my collection and as the years went on, I went from taking a carrying case that held 10 CD's with me everywhere I went to eventually lugging around a Case Logic (TM) carrier that held 200 discs which gave me the opportunity to bring nearly my entire CD collection with me everywhere I went. Then, back in 2001 a new device was born that would eventually end my need to collect CD's...the iPod.

Mongolian BBQ at Home – Ryan’s Recipe

One of my family's favorite restaurants in all of Evansville is a locally owned Mongolian BBQ joint on Evansville's North Side.

But just like any time you take a family of 4 out for dinner to a non-fast food restaurant, it can get pricey. So to save some cash and still enjoy one of our favorite meals, we started making it at home.

Abundance of Apps Makes Finding the Good Ones Difficult

A few months ago, our corporate offices created an awesome app called radioPup that allows you to listen to 106-1 KISS-FM anywhere on the planet through your smartphone or tablet computer. But wait, it gets better. This is a FREE app! Pretty sweet, right?

To help get the creative juices going when it came to creating the commercials to help promote the app's launch, our corporate team offered a brand new iPad to whoever had the best spot. Guess who won?

Evansville’s Kanpai is a Must Try – Ryan’s Review

(Editor's Note: Before we get too deep into this review, you should know that "Kanpai" is pronounced CAN-PIE. Now re-read the headline again and you'll see that I made a little rhyme (clever, huh?). Alright, let's get to it...)

My wife and I both really enjoy Asian cuisine whether it's Thai, Szchewan, or one of the many great Chinese buffets we have in the Evansville area. So last Saturday night we sent the kids to Grandma's house for the night and decided to grab dinner at Kanpai on Washington Ave. across from Schnucks. Our first trip was back in February for Valentine's Day dinner and we loved it.

Jeremy Renner and Ryan O’Bryan – Separated at Birth?

A few years back, a co-worker of mine stopped me in the hall and said that he had just watched a movie called S.W.A.T. which starred a guy by the name of Jeremy Renner that he swore could be my identical twin.
