The latest film from Mud and Take Shelter director Jeff Nichols is set to debut at SXSW next month, but you won't have to wait long to see what's so special about Midnight Special, as it hits theaters about a week after its festival premiere. A new trailer for the sci-fi indie has arrived, further teasing the mystery and desperation surrounding one very interesting little boy.

Disclaimer: It's best to go into Karyn Kusama's The Invitation completely blind, if possible, in order to get the most out of this exquisitely unnerving thriller. But if you absolutely, positively must watch a trailer before you commit to seeing the film, then this is a pretty great preview of what's in store.

There are ordinary, everyday ripoffs and there are thefts so bold they’re almost impressive in the degree of their thievery. What I admire about The Huntsman: Winter’s War, the sorta-prequel to 2012’s Snow White and the Huntsman, is that very shamelessness. They basically swapped out Snow White (she’s a baby here; she grew up to be Kristen Stewart in the first movie) for Elsa from Frozen. They’re not even pretending. They just want all the little girls who loved Frozen and are now three years older to come check out this movie.

In the distant future, humankind has completely eradicated the scourge of emotion. More importantly, they have eradicated the scourge of bad haircuts. Everyone in the future has slick, immaculately coiffed hairdos perfectly complemented by an ensemble of crisp stainless whites. The future looks so clean you could eat off of it, and yet even in this antiseptic utopia, trouble’s a-brewing. There’s a lethal virus going around, and while the trailer embedded above dare not speak its name, we don’t share the same reservations. The leads of Drake Doremus’ festival sensation Equals have a bad case of ‘the feels’.

Last month, my home city of Washington, D.C. got a couple feet of snow and I spent three days holed up in my apartment. That brief 72-hour span alone nearly drove me to the brink of insanity, and so I suppose I get where the characters in the J.G. Ballard adaptation High-Rise are coming from. Their luxury apartment complex has sufficient amenities to make entering the outside world unnecessary, and so of course they all devolve into warlike tribes and turn on one another in an orgy of bourgeois social angling gone violent. A few days of snow nearly had me talking to cantaloupes with faces painted on them; life in a high-rise, even a fabulously posh one, would be more than enough to get me to eat my landlord‘s dog.

The trailer for Trolls is DreamWorks’ greatest troll to date, somehow managing to encapsulate the most irritating aspects of the animation studio’s productions in a minute flat. The names of Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake pass by to hint at the promise of a good time with plenty of throaty musical numbers, but this is only misdirection for the volley of aggression to come.

Even as video games go, the mobile app Angry Birds is pretty conceptually thin. There are birds. They are angry, ostensibly because green pigs have constructed elaborate castles all over their bird-world, and nobody likes developers. The birds live only to slingshot themselves at high speeds into said castles, destroying them and hopefully eliminating all pigs in the process...

Cult comedies that attempt to regroup for a sequel many years after the original film often have mixed success. You’ll probably find few people who like Anchorman 2 or Dumb and Dumber To as much as the originals. But, that hasn’t stopped Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson from returning for Zoolander 2 and, despite the odds, this actually looks really funny.

You’d be forgiven for thinking that Finding Nemo didn’t really need a sequel. It was a completely charming, yet contained adventure, wrapped up pretty neatly. But, it was a very, very successful Pixar movie and, these days, that means sequel. Of the first seven Pixar movies, only Finding Nemo and A Bug’s Life (which has seemed to be almost ret-conned out of existence in the Pixar universe) hadn’t yet had sequels, but that’s about to change next summer as Finding Dory opens in theaters.
