When it comes to maternity leave, The United States earns a pretty dismal ranking when compared to other countries, being the only first-world country, and one of only three countries (the others being Lesotho, Swaziland and Papua New Guinea) that does not offer paid maternity leaves. Not only do other countries have better systems in place for maternity leave, but they have some pretty great welcoming gifts for their newest citizens. In Finland, for example, new parents can choose between receiving the above maternity package filled with essentials for baby's first few months or a tax-free lump sum of 140 euros as a maternity grant.

One thing I love about kids, is how brutally honest they are. This is hilarious. In this video they play Skrillex's song 'Bangarang'. Not only do the kids have adorable accents, but the comments they make are hilarious. Comments like; "It sounds like my dog", "It's robot music", "This music makes me want to slap my sisters fat butt", (I'm sure she meant the P-H version of fat), and my favorite, "This is like my grandma's sofa!" Breakdancing gorilla, step aside. We’re all about breakdancing kids now — namely Jalen Testerman and Lil’ Demon, the stars of a new American Apparel ad directed by photographer Tony Kelly. Both are well-known B-boys: in addition to their many live performances, Testerman appeared on ‘Ellen’ at the tender age of six and Lil’ Demon (née Angelo Baligad) had the same honor at seven. We could watch these kids break (and mug for the camera) on a downtown LA rooftop for hours on end.

Although my parenting career is still in it's early stages (my oldest is 6 & my youngest is 4), I've had the opportunity to enjoy a few milestones, first steps, first teeth, first words, and of course no longer needing diapers. One of my other favorites was the day they were big enough to get out of car seats complete with 5-point harness and graduate to a booster seat.
