Best Places to Go Swimming in Evansville – Our Top Five

With the summer months approaching (and the heat already here), Tri-Staters love to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. Barbecues, vacations, sporting events and everything else under the sun can be done with blue skies above us. The only bad thing about summer (according to some) is the heat and how to cope with it. One way is find a good place to swim. With Evansville being called “the river city,” you may think the river would be a surefire place to swim. You can swim in the Ohio river, however you do have a few things to worry about such as currents, hidden things under the water such as logs and, of course, boat traffic  on the river. I don’t think you want to be practicing your breast stroke in oncoming barge traffic!  Though we don’t have a beach easily accessible in Evansville, there are still plenty of places to go for a swim in and around the city. In no particular order are our top five places to go swimming.

Something that you may not have realized, or even considered for a second, is that just because it's summer, doesn't mean that you don't still have to stop for a stopped school bus. It had not occurred to me that some students may be attending summer school, and summer school means school buses running routes

Soldiers in Stone to Honor Local Veterans

On Wednesday morning, I had the opportunity to interview Evansville residents Kenny Tenbarge and Mike Mohan about a special project they've put together called Soldiers in Stone. This non-profit operation looks to raise money for different veteran's organizations and is quite an undertaking.  The idea is to replace every brick in the sidewalk on Riverside Drive overlooking Dress Plaza with an engraved brick honoring a local vet that has been purchased by someone in the tri-state. That's right...every...single...brick.

As gas prices in the Evansville area push the $3.80 mark, just know it could be worse (not to say it won't be before the summer is over.

Send Us Your Storm Pictures

If you live anywhere in the 106-1 KISS-FM listening area, you were not spared the wrath of the storms that sped through the area last night. Although the Evansville area was under a tornado warning, there were no reports of a tornado touching down within the city limits. Instead we were treated to what weather experts call "straight-line winds", some in excess of 70 mph.

According to an article on the Evansville Courier & Press website, the stiff winds in addition to lightning and thunder caused approximately 17,000 Vectren customers in Mt. Vernon & Evansville to lose power.

If there's one thing everyone can agree on, it's that gas prices SUCK...the money right out of your pocket!
