If it were 1996 and you asked Posh Spice what she wants, what she really really wants in life, pop superstardom might not be her answer. According to the Spice Girls' former manager, Victoria Beckham always felt out of place in the iconic girl group.

While speaking onstage at the Business Innovation Awards in Los Angeles, Simon Fuller, who managed the Spice Girls between 1995 and 1997 — during the peak of their success — revealed that despite being "in the world's biggest group for two or three years," Beckham never truly felt like she fit in.

"She could sing pretty well, she could dance pretty well, but she always felt uncomfortable," he told the crowd. "When the Spice Girls broke up, she had a few songs as a solo artist but she wasn't happy and she said to me, 'Simon, I just don't want to do music anymore. What do you think I should do?'"

The answer, as we all know, came in the form of fashion: "It was one of those things that you get this kind of clarity of vision. I've known Victoria since she was eighteen and her passion in life was always clothes," Fuller explained. "She was called Posh Spice because she always wore the best dresses and she knew everything about clothes. I said, 'You should be in fashion; you should be a designer.'"

The Entrepreneur of the Year honoree, who also manages David Beckham's brand and launched the Victoria Beckham dress collection at NYFW in 2008, added that the former pop star is likely to become one of the most successful fashion designers ever.

"She's a legitimate fashion designer," he gushed. "Her company is worth literally hundreds of millions of dollars and there's no stopping her. She will be, without any doubt, one of the world's greatest designers in the next few years."

Considering how twenty years later, the Spice Girls remain one of the world's greatest girl groups of all time, it's possible.
