Sherman Hemsley of “The Jeffersons” Dead at 74
One of my favorite sitcoms on Nick at Nite was always ‘The Jeffersons’. I loved George. He as a total jerk to everyone and I thought it was funny. I remember my grandpa used to always watch Archie Bunker on ‘All in the Family’, which often featured an appearance by George Jefferson.
That is where “The Jefferson’s” were born. The show was a huge hit and was one of the first major successful black sitcoms. I used to love the “movin’ on up” theme. I think it is because I am fat and they mention getting a piece of the pie. Sherman Hemsley will be missed. He is a TV legend and will live on in reruns forever.
