If you live anywhere in the 106-1 KISS-FM listening area, you were not spared the wrath of the storms that sped through the area last night. Although the Evansville area was under a tornado warning, there were no reports of a tornado touching down within the city limits. Instead we were treated to what weather experts call "straight-line winds", some in excess of 70 mph.

According to an article on the Evansville Courier & Press website, the stiff winds in addition to lightning and thunder caused approximately 17,000 Vectren customers in Mt. Vernon & Evansville to lose power.

Several area schools were either closed today or ran on a 2-hour delay due to either power outages or fallen trees and other debris blocking the roads. If you have any photos from the storm itself or the aftermath and wouldn't mind having them posted here on our site, e-mail them to me at ryano@1061evansville.com or post them to our Facebook wall.

Thanks to those who sent in the following pics!
