The office of Mayor Lloyd Winnecke announced on Thursday the "Clean Evansville" event scheduled for this Saturday morning at Garvin Park has been cancelled due to the winter weather impacting the area.

The announcement was made through the Mayor's official Twitter account.

Originally scheduled for 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning, the snow that fell on the area Thursday morning and the forecast for below freezing temperatures left the City little choice other than to cancel the community event.

Saturday's high according to the National Weather Service is forecast to be 25-degrees. Not exactly ideal weather for picking up trash. The fact the cold temps will likely keep the snow on the ground through weekend making it difficult to even find trash on the ground doesn't help either.

As of this writing, no rescheduled date has been announced.
