Pro-tip: if you're scared of clowns or creepy dolls, you might want to skip the new ‘Poltergeist’ trailer. If you're all good with evil clown dolls coming to life and attacking young children, what are you waiting for?! You can watch the new ‘Poltergeist’ trailer above.

We're almost immediately skeptical of remakes of movies as good as ‘Poltergeist’ is, and that still holds true here, but there's enough in this new trailer, to give us some hope. It remains faithful to the original (and even has some nods to ‘Poltergeist II’, while not being slavish. They've at least updated the technology. The poltergeists invade a flat-screen TV this time! And, an iPhone! The film has a Spielbergian vibe, and there's a lot that will be familiar to fans of the original: the aforementioned clown doll, goo, worms, vomiting, tree monsters, portals, etc.

One thing that we hope doesn't follow this new ‘Poltergeist’ movie, is the alleged “Poltergeist Curse”. Four people who starred in the original film died over the course of the original three films. (Actress JoBeth Williams has said that the production used actual human skeletons in the finale of the first film, and conspiracy theory types point to this as the cause of the curse.)

The unfortunate fact of the matter is that these MGM horror remakes have a history of being pretty bad. ‘The Amityville Horror’ and ‘Carrie’ were both terrible in their own ways, yet for some strange reason, we're hopeful that ‘Poltergeist’ will be the lone exception.

If you needed to be further creeped out today, the trailer ends with a promo for a website called DiedinHouse.com, which will allow you to enter your address and it will tell you whether someone ever died at your current place of residence. So, just in case you didn't want to sleep tonight.

When the terrifying apparitions escalate their attacks and hold the youngest daughter captive, the family must come together to rescue her before she disappears forever.

UPDATE: Here's the international trailer, which is a way better edit of the material.

This ‘Poltergeist’ remake stars Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Jared Harris, Jane Adams and newcomer Kennedi Clements in the Carol Anne role (even though she's not called Carol Anne in the new movie).

‘Poltergeist’ opens in theaters in 3D on July 24.
