Newburgh's infamous "tree canopy" will finally be removed this week. This project was originally scheduled to happen back in June, but was postponed. The reason behind the city removing the tree canopy .the trees that are hanging over the road are overall in bad shape and present a current safety hazard. Now, the time has come to remove the tree canopy on SR 662. In a post made by the Newburgh Police Department, it was announced that the tree canopy removal will be on Wednesday, October 24 and Thursday, October 25. This will cause SR 662 between Ellerbusch Road and Frame Road to be closed on those days. For complete details, see below.

Road Closure – Tree Canopy Project – Newburgh, Indiana

Work will commence on the “Tree Canopy” on Wednesday, October 24 and Thursday, October 25.

No through traffic will be allowed on SR 662W between Ellerbusch Road and Frame Road.

Detour signs will be posted and it is suggested that drivers use SR 66 to avoid the area entirely.

The contractor plans to start around 8:15 AM and hopefully end at approximately 4:30 PM.

If the contractor is unable to complete the project on Wednesday, the road will be open for the evening hours and will be closed again around 8:15 AM on Thursday.
