We talked this morning on The Rob's Radio Show about the contestant for American Idol that lied about his back story and his service to our military.

Matt Farmer claimed during his American Idol audition that aired January 30th that he was injured by an IED during his time in service while stationed in Iraq - claiming the medication prescribed for his traumatic brain injury caused him to be sterile. Turns out he lied! A lot!

Matt was called out by a website called GuardiansOfValor.com that's mission statement is to:

Our Mission is to out people who falsely claim Military service and/or claim unauthorized medals or tabs. It may be your First Amendment right to lie about service to this country, and medals earned, but it is our First Amendment right to show the world your lies.

After many letters and communications from soldiers who had served with Matt - some even claiming that his traumatic brain injury was the result of a seizure caused by mixing alcohol with medication - he eventually released the following statement:

Everything you have read is correct. It was ALL lies. I in fact HAVE lied since a younger age and had a problem with it. I am coming out and making a statement (even though I was instructed not to) because i DO want to come clean. Just so everyone knows I’m not reviving any sort of disability for Tbi. Let it also be known that I left country 2.5 months before the rest of the unit came home, I stayed in the army PAST my ETS date and was released from full service (wether active or reserve) in 2009...

...I at no time was a sniper, was never deployed to Afghanistan, did a single tour in Iraq, and was never at any time hit or wounded by an IED

I find this to be completely deceitful, as well as disrespectful to the men & women who have served Our Great Country, and even more so to those who have lost life and limb in their service.

I haven't heard yet whether or not Matt Farmer will be allowed to continue on in American Idol, but it is my honest opinion that he no idol at all. I am curious what your thoughts are. Please leave a comment, and let me know what you think.
