If you haven't heard of Soldier Dogs for Independence, they are a really incredible local organization.  SDI helps veterans by pairing them up with a rescue dog, and together the dog and the veteran go through a 26-week course, and at the end the veteran has a fully certified service dog.  However SDI is completely run on donations, no veteran pays a dime for this, but it does cost about $650 for one team (veteran and their dog) to complete the course.  Here's how you can help out!

Three local businesses have teamed up to accept donations for SDI this week, going on through March 7th, at any one of these locations you can stop by and drop off a donation for SDI and each business has pledged to match your donations up to $1,000!

To help out stop by one of these three businesses:

  • iPhone Todd
  • Brian Schmitt Heating and Cooling
  • Abby's Shabby Chic Furniture and Design

All you have to do is stop in, and drop off a donation, that's it!

SDI is changing the lives of veterans in the tri-state, they're giving freedom back to America's heroes, they've done their duty, and served our country, it's time we help them get their lives back.

Most of the men and women in SDI suffer from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), some of them have other injuries that the dogs are trained to help with as well.  These dogs are their lifeline.  They help calm them, wake them from nightmares, help them pick things up off the ground, turn on light switches, they remind the veteran to take their medication, and overall give them the freedom to go out and enjoy their lives again.

SDI is an organization very near to my heart, they've become great friends of mine, and I'm very proud that we live in a community where we all pull together to help one another out.  These three businesses are going above and beyond to help out a truly amazing organization. I hope you'll be stopping by and donating as well, every dollar helps!
