Lilly King's attempt at a gold medal in the 200 Meter Breaststroke medal came to end Wednesday night as she failed to finish in the top eight of the semifinal.

King just squeaked into the Wednesday's semifinal placing fifth in her heat and 15th overall with a time of 2:25.89 in Wednesday morning's preliminary. The top 16 swimmer from the prelims advanced to the semis.

Lilly raced in the second of two semifinals, needing to finish in the top four in order to move on to Thursday night's finals. After a strong start on the first lap, King fell behind, unable to close the gap and ended up finishing in seventh place with a time of 2:24.59.

She'll have one more shot at adding a medal to her collection when she competes in the 400 Medley Relay beginning Friday morning with the preliminaries at 11:00 a.m. Evansville time on NBC.
